Alanya Excursions: Boat Trips, Jeep Safaris and Day Tours
Compare Alanya excursions: pirate and Green Canyon boat trips, jeep and quad safaris, rafting, hammams and city tours, with what each one includes and who it suits.
On this page
Book a boat trip if you want the sea and a lazy day, a jeep or quad safari if you want dust and water fights, and a city or ancient-site tour if you came for the castle, the coast road and the ruins beyond Alanya. Everything else is a variation on those three, and the practical difference between two similar-sounding tours is usually what the price covers rather than where it goes. This guide runs through the main excursions sold in Alanya, what each typically includes, how long it takes and which resort areas the tour companies collect from.
Prices move with the lira, so treat any figure here as whatever the tour company listed at the time of writing rather than a guarantee for your dates. Confirm the current price, departure time and pickup point with the company before you pay, and check whether entrance tickets sit inside the price or on top of it.
What excursions run from Alanya
The main choices are boat trips along the coast, jeep and quad safaris into the Taurus Mountains, rafting and canyon days inland, Turkish bath and hammam packages, a city tour that takes in the castle and cable car, and long day trips to Side, Demre–Myra–Kekova or Pamukkale. Most are sold with hotel transfer, and many are bookable online with payment on the day of the tour.
Pickup coverage matters if you are staying outside the centre. Alanya Daily Tours lists free transfers from Avsallar, Türkler, Okurcalar, İncekum, Konaklı, Mahmutlar, Kestel, Kızılot, Kızılağaç, Side, Belek, Antalya and Manavgat, which covers most of the hotel strip east and west of Alanya. If your hotel is further out, message Alanya Daily Tours before booking and ask whether the coach reaches you.
Alanya sits on a headland with the old town and harbour on one side and the long Cleopatra Beach on the other, so boat trips leave from the harbour while jeep routes head inland towards the Dim River and the mountains behind the town. Knowing which side of the peninsula your hotel is on helps you judge how early a pickup will be.

Boat trips: pirate ships, all-inclusive cruises and sunset sails
The classic is a pirate-ship or themed boat trip with lunch, soft drinks and swimming stops, and operators sell several versions at different lengths and prices. One local operator prices its pirate ship at £12 with insurance, transfer, lunch, boat tour and soft drinks included and a five-hour window, while its all-inclusive boat trip with hotel transfer runs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays over five hours. Read the inclusions line by line: alcoholic drinks and personal expenses are usually excluded.
If you want the sea without the foam party, private yacht and boat hire is the alternative, priced per booking rather than per seat. A quieter private hire and a shared party boat can cost similar money per group once you fill the boat, so compare on that basis if you are travelling as a family or a group of friends. For the full spread of routes, harbours and seasonal timings, work through the Alanya Boat Trips guide before you commit to a date.
Sunset and evening sails exist as a separate product, generally with dinner, soft drinks and entertainment rather than long swimming stops. One operator lists a sunset boat trip on Mondays and Fridays over five hours, with transfer, dinner, soft drinks, animations, a foam party and insurance in the price. Check the departure time against sunset in your month, because an early-season evening sail can finish after dark.
Green Canyon boat tour
The Green Canyon trip is a lake cruise rather than a sea day: a coach run inland to the reservoir behind the Taurus Mountains, then a boat along the drowned valley with lunch and swimming stops. One operator's version runs nine hours with transfer, insurance, guide, lunch, soft drinks and the boat trip included, departing in the morning and returning in the late afternoon. It is a long day for younger children, and the water is colder and calmer than the sea.
A separate operator sells the same idea as a Green Canyon tour with lunch, hotel transfer and a scenic lake cruise, listed as available every day. Because coach tours reach the canyon around the same time, the boats can queue at the jetty in high summer, so ask what time your group actually boards.
Jeep and quad safaris into the Taurus Mountains
Jeep safaris run up into the Taurus Mountains behind Alanya, usually with a stop at the Dim River for lunch and a visit to Dim Cave, and the selling point is water fights between vehicles rather than distance covered. One operator lists a six-hour jeep safari with hotel transfer by jeep, lunch at the Dimçay restaurants, driver-accompanist services and insurance, leaving in the morning. Wear quick-drying clothes and put your phone in a bag.
Quad and buggy safaris are shorter and dustier, run in convoy on forest tracks, and suit teenagers more than small children. They are booked as add-ons by some operators and as standalone tours by others, so compare on machine time rather than the headline price. Our Alanya jeep safari guide covers the routes, the Dim River stop and what to bring in more detail.
A booking platform lists a full-day jeep safari to the Taurus Mountains, a buggy safari in the forest and a jeep safari with lunch at the Dim River as separate products with their own reviews. That is a useful signal on group size and format: a full-day mountain route and a two-hour buggy loop are different days out, even when the photos look alike.
Rafting at Köprülü Canyon
Rafting trips run to Köprülü Canyon National Park, a long coach transfer inland, with a guided run down the river, lunch and equipment in the package. One operator sells a five-hour Beşkonak rafting tour with transfer, insurance, instructor, lunch and equipment included, leaving in the morning. The canyon is a full day out of your holiday once you count the transfers at both ends.
Other operators run whitewater rafting in Köprülü Canyon National Park with lunch, and reviews mention buying quad biking or ziplining on the spot as extras. Budget for those add-ons and for shoe hire or photos if you want them, and check whether your travel insurance covers rafting before you go.
Sapadere Canyon and waterfall tours
Sapadere Canyon is the gentler canyon day: a wooden walkway through a cool gorge with waterfalls and swimming, reached by coach or jeep. One operator lists a Sapadere Canyon and waterfall tour with lunch from Alanya, and a separate Sapadere Canyon jeep tour for travellers who prefer the open-sided vehicle. It is the better choice for mixed-age groups who want scenery without a paddle.
A full-day Sapadere tour with swimming stops is also sold by local operators, described as available every day. The walkway is shaded and the water is cold, so bring footwear with grip rather than flip-flops, and expect crowds in the middle of the day when the coaches arrive together.
Turkish bath and hammam experiences
Hammam packages are the cheapest excursion on most lists and the easiest to fit around other plans. One operator prices a hamam at £12 including transfer, sauna, steam bath, peeling, foam massage, full body oil massage, face mask and tea or coffee, running daily between 09:00 and 18:00 over about two hours. The booking platform lists several Turkish bath and spa experiences in Alanya at similar mid-range prices.
Check whether the price includes the scrub and oil massage or only the sauna and foam, because the inclusions vary between the packages on sale. Mixed-gender groups should ask whether the session is segregated, and anyone with sensitive skin should mention it before the peeling.
Alanya city tour with cable car and castle
The city tour is the sightseeing option and usually bundles the castle, a panorama stop and the Alanya cable car up to the hill. One operator's old town sightseeing and city tour includes insurance, transfer and a guide but excludes entrance tickets, running over four hours in the late afternoon. Read that exclusion carefully: castle and cable car tickets are extra unless a listing says otherwise.
A booking platform sells an Alanya city tour with cable car, castle and panorama view as a separate product, so you can compare what each version actually covers before choosing. If you would rather ride up independently and walk the walls at your own pace, our Alanya cable car guide sets out the route and the viewpoints.
The castle sits on the headland above the harbour and the old town, so a guided tour is mostly about transport and context rather than covering ground on foot. Allow time afterwards for the harbour and the Red Tower area if the tour drops you in the centre.

Paragliding over the coast
Paragliding runs from the mountain above the coast with a tandem instructor, and My Alanya Tours lists it at £55 with instructor, insurance, equipment and transfer included over about two hours. Flights depend on wind and cloud, so build in a spare morning in case yours is called off. Ask the flight crew where you land and how you get back to your hotel.
Weight limits, age limits and footwear rules come from the paragliding company, not from the booking page, so ask directly if anyone in your group is unsure. Anyone who dislikes heights should treat this as a spectator morning instead.
Long-haul day trips: Side, Demre–Myra–Kekova and Pamukkale
These are full-day commitments with early starts. One operator sells an Alanya to Side bus tour with insurance, tickets, lunch, guide and transfer over nine hours, and a Demre–Myra–Kekova tour that takes in the sunken city by boat. Pamukkale is also sold from Alanya, which is a very long coach day given the distance inland.
A Cappadocia trip from Alanya is listed as a 48-hour product including hotel accommodation and breakfast and dinner on the first day, which tells you how far it is: this is an overnight, not a day trip. If you only have a week in Alanya, pick one long excursion at most and keep the rest of the holiday local. For the rock formations and castle viewpoint that draw people to the region, see our guide to the Cappadocia rock formations.
For the shorter version, a Side ancient city and Manavgat mosque and waterfall tour is listed as running on selected days, so check the calendar before you plan around it. Entrance tickets and personal expenses are commonly excluded on these coach tours even when lunch and guiding are included.
Choosing between a boat trip, a safari and a sightseeing tour
Match the excursion to the weather and the group rather than to the brochure photo. A Alanya boat trip is the safe choice on a hot, still day, a canyon or rafting day suits a mixed group who want activity, and a hammam fills a cloudy morning without wasting a beach day.
Then compare inclusions on four lines: transfer, lunch, drinks and entrance tickets. A tour that looks cheaper often excludes tickets or drinks, and a tour that includes everything may still add photos, shoes or extra activities on the day. Paying on the day is common with local operators, but keep a card as backup and get the pickup time in writing.
Which excursion should you book first?
Book the boat trip first if you only have one free day, since it uses the coast that Alanya is built around, and add a hammam or the city tour for a second slot. Leave the canyon, rafting and long-haul days for trips of a week or more, when a full day on a coach does not eat the whole holiday.
Whichever you pick, confirm the pickup point, the inclusions and the cancellation terms with the operator before you pay, and keep the confirmation on your phone for the driver.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Alanya or Antalya better for excursions?
Alanya works well as a base because its own excursions, from boat trips and jeep safaris to the castle and cable car, leave from the town itself, while Antalya is the bigger city with its own set of tours. If you are staying in Alanya, book locally rather than travelling to Antalya to join a trip.
What are fun things to do with kids in Alanya?
Families tend to combine a pirate or all-inclusive boat trip with swimming stops, a jeep safari that includes the Dim River lunch stop, and a canyon walk at Sapadere, which is flat going on a wooden walkway. Quad and buggy safaris suit older children, and the hammam is the easy option for a slow morning.
