Most Ölüdeniz excursions fall into three groups: boat trips that leave from Ölüdeniz beach, tandem paragliding above the Blue Lagoon and Babadağ, and land-based tours such as jeep safaris. Your first decision is departure point, because beach boats save you a transfer while the big bay cruises start from Fethiye harbour, roughly a short dolmuş ride away.

This guide separates the trips that leave from the beach from those that start in Fethiye, explains what a shared boat day usually includes, and sets paragliding and safari against the water so you can judge how many days you want to commit. Live prices and departure times appear on each tour's booking page.

What excursions can you book from Ölüdeniz?

The core menu is boats, paragliding and land tours. Beach departures cover the Butterfly Valley and Gemiler Island run and shorter bay cruises, while Fethiye harbour handles the larger 12 Islands cruises, sunset trips and private crewed hire. Civitatis lists 12 tours and experiences under Ölüdeniz, including a paragliding flight over Babadağ and the Blue Lagoon, a seven-hour pirate-themed cruise and an eight-hour diving trip.

Land excursions sit alongside the water. Jeep safaris are sold in resort and commonly pair a rough mountain route with stops such as Saklıkent Canyon, and a full Oludeniz jeep safari day is worth reading up on before you commit to the early start. Most trips are sold as shared group departures; private versions cost more and give you the boat or vehicle to yourselves.

Boat trips that leave from Ölüdeniz beach

Boats leave directly from Ölüdeniz beach rather than a separate harbour, which is the main practical advantage: you walk to the waterline instead of arranging a transfer. The best-known beach run is the trip to Butterfly Valley and Gemiler, also called St Nicholas Island. Because these boats fill from the beach each morning, booking a day or two ahead in high summer is sensible rather than months in advance. For a fuller comparison of routes, timings and what each departure covers, start with Ölüdeniz Boat Trips.

Beach boats are generally smaller and the day is shorter than a full bay cruise, so they suit families and anyone who wants to be back on land by late afternoon. Bear that trade-off in mind when you compare a beach departure with a Fethiye harbour sailing.

The Butterfly Valley and Gemiler Island run

This is the classic Ölüdeniz beach excursion and combines two very different stops. Butterfly Valley is a steep-sided inlet reached by water, and Gemiler Island carries the ruins associated with St Nicholas; boat trips from the beach combine the two in one day. Civitatis lists a seven-hour pirate-themed cruise from Ölüdeniz as one version of the format, with a boat, a swimming stop and a set route.

Treat the boat as the day out rather than transport between sights. Swimming stops, lunch on board and time ashore vary by boat, so ask the crew at the quayside which stops are included before you pay, and check whether lunch and drinks are in the price or extra.

The 12 Islands cruise from Fethiye harbour

The 12 Islands trip is the biggest boat day in the area and it does not leave from Ölüdeniz. Boats start from Fethiye harbour and cruise the bay out towards the Göcek islands, which means a transfer into town first. Traveltofethiye describes it as the most famous Fethiye boat trip, with a separate sailing-boat version of the same route.

In 2026 TraveltoFethiye listed the 12 Islands cruise from £30 per person and the sailing version from £32, with a sunset Fethiye cruise from £20 and private crewed boat hire from £250 per boat including lunch and transfers. Those figures are TraveltoFethiye's own 2026 prices and will move with the exchange rate and season; confirm the current rate when you book.

A Sunday departure adds a market stop at Göcek, according to the same operator, so the day becomes part cruise and part shopping. If you want water and swimming rather than a market, pick a midweek sailing instead.

Paragliding over the Blue Lagoon and Babadağ

Tandem paragliding is the other signature Ölüdeniz excursion, and it works differently from a boat day. You fly as a passenger with a licensed pilot from the Babadağ launch area above the resort, looking down on the Blue Lagoon, and the flight itself is short compared with the time spent on transfers and preparation. Civitatis gives the whole experience as about 1 hour 40 minutes.

Civitatis listed that flight at US$179.55 in 2026, sold with free cancellation. As with any flight, weather decides whether you go up, so build in a spare morning rather than booking it for your final day.

If you would rather see the lagoon from above without jumping off a mountain, the Oludeniz cable car up Babadağ gives you the view with far less commitment and no weather-dependent booking risk beyond cloud.

Jeep safari and other land excursions

Jeep safaris run inland into the mountains and gorges rather than along the coast, and they are the usual choice for travellers who want a land day between boat trips. Routes typically include rough tracks, water fights in summer and stops at a canyon or village, and they are bumpy, dusty and long. Expect to be out most of the day and to come back tired rather than refreshed.

Other land options in the wider Fethiye area include horse riding, quad biking and canyoning-style excursions sold through local agencies. For a route-by-route look at what a jeep day covers, including Saklıkent Canyon stops, see the jeep safari guide before booking.

Private speedboat and crewed boat hire

Private hire splits into two products. Speedboat hire runs from Ölüdeniz beach on an hourly or daily basis, usually without a crew, while private crewed boat hire starts from Fethiye harbour, Ölüdeniz beach or Dalyan and includes a captain. Traveltofethiye listed speedboat hire from £120 in 2026 and crewed private boats from £250, lunch and transfers included.

Private hire pays off for groups of six or more, when the per-head cost can fall close to a shared ticket while giving you control over the route, the swimming stops and the music. For couples, a shared boat is almost always better value.

How to weigh up boat trip, safari and paragliding

Judge each option by what it demands of you. A beach boat asks for a full day, sun cream and a tolerance for crowds; paragliding asks for half a morning and a head for heights; a jeep safari asks for an early start and a strong stomach on rough tracks. If you have three days in Ölüdeniz, one boat day and one flight is a comfortable pairing, with the third left free for the lagoon itself.

Weather and season do most of the filtering. Wind can ground flights, and heat in high summer makes a land safari harder work than a day on the water. Ask at your hotel or the quayside what is running during your stay, since daily schedules are not fixed.

Booking in resort versus online before you go

Booking online before you travel locks in a date and often a cancellation policy, which matters for paragliding because weather cancellations are common. Civitatis sells its Ölüdeniz flights and cruises with free cancellation, which gives you a fallback if conditions turn.

Booking in resort gives you more choice of boat and the chance to inspect it first, and it is usually cheaper for beach departures because you cut out the platform's margin. A middle path is to book the flight online and pick the boat on the day.

What a boat trip day typically includes

Most shared boat days include the boat, a set route with swimming stops, and lunch, with drinks charged separately. Civitatis describes its pirate cruise as a seven-hour English-language boat tour, and TraveltoFethiye's 12 Islands price includes lunch.

What is extra varies by boat: entrance fees on islands, drinks, snorkel gear and photographs are the usual add-ons. Ask before boarding so the final bill on the boat does not surprise you, and take cash in small notes for drinks.

Which excursion should you book first?

Book the boat first if you have only one free day, because it shows you the coast, the lagoon and the island ruins in one go and needs no special nerve. Add paragliding only if you are comfortable in the air, and treat the jeep safari as the option for a second or third day when you want a change from the water.

Whichever you choose, confirm the departure point when you book: beach boats leave from Ölüdeniz beach, while the 12 Islands cruise and most crewed private hire start from Fethiye harbour. That single detail decides how early your day begins.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you do a day trip from Ölüdeniz to Pamukkale?

Pamukkale is a long way inland from Ölüdeniz, and operators in the area sell it as a multi-day tour rather than a single day out. Civitatis lists a combined Pamukkale and Ephesus two-day tour from the Fethiye area, which is the realistic format if you want to see both.

Is paragliding in Ölüdeniz suitable for nervous first-timers?

It is a tandem flight, so you fly with a pilot who handles the launch and landing while you sit in the harness. Civitatis describes its flight as lasting about 1 hour 40 minutes in total, and reviews on the same page describe pilots adjusting the flight to each passenger's comfort. If nerves are a concern, say so when you book.

Do Ölüdeniz boat trips run outside summer?

Beach departures are seasonal and depend on demand and weather, so the reliable way to find out is to ask your hotel or a local operator shortly before you travel; a daily departure in the shoulder months is not guaranteed. Check current details before booking.
