Manavgat's main bazaar runs on Monday and Thursday, and each day sells something different: Monday draws farmers and producers with fresh produce, honey and cheese, while Thursday is the day for textiles, towels, leather goods and souvenirs. Arrive just after 09:00 rather than at opening if you want fully set-up stalls and the best selection.

This guide sets out what each day sells, the typical opening and closing pattern, where the market sits in town, how to reach it by dolmuş from the coastal resorts, and how bargaining works once you are at a stall. It closes with a half-day route that fits the market around the mosque and the waterfall so the morning earns its trip.

What Manavgat market is and which days it runs

Manavgat market is a traditional open-air bazaar in the centre of town, with stalls selling fresh fruit and vegetables, spices, sweets, textiles, leather goods, ceramics and handmade crafts. It is one of the largest bazaars in the Antalya area and is held twice a week, on Monday and Thursday.

The distinction matters if you have one free morning: turning up on Monday for towels or on Thursday for tomatoes misses the point of the day. Pick Thursday for gifts and household textiles, Monday for food.

Monday market: produce, honey and cheese

Monday is the produce day, when farmers and small producers from the surrounding villages bring seasonal fruit and vegetables, local honey and cheeses. The choice is widest early, and the atmosphere is closer to a working grocery run than a souvenir hunt.

Buy what travels well: dried fruit, olives, honey and spices are easier to carry home than soft fruit. Go early in the morning for the best of the fresh produce, before the day's stock thins out.

Thursday market: textiles, towels, leather and souvenirs

Thursday is the day the market fills out with clothing, Turkish towels, leather goods, soaps, ceramics, evil eye beads and souvenir pieces. It is the bigger tourist draw of the two days, with sections given over to textiles and replica-brand goods alongside the fresh produce.

Come with a rough budget in mind and compare two or three stalls before committing, because quality varies widely between neighbouring tables. Towels and cotton goods are bulky, so plan how they fit in your luggage before you fall for a set.

Typical opening times and the best hour to arrive

The bazaar typically opens around 08:00 and winds down in the late afternoon, usually between 17:00 and 18:00 depending on the season and the light. Treat those as the pattern rather than a promise, and confirm the day's schedule locally if you are making a special trip.

Mid-morning, just after 09:00, gives the best balance: the stalls are fully set up, the produce has been laid out, and the midday heat has not yet arrived. The market generally winds down between 17:00 and 18:00, so a late-afternoon visit is quieter.

Where the market sits in Manavgat

The market is centrally placed on the east side of the Manavgat River, within walking distance of the town centre and easy to reach from the main road. If you are staying in Side, the town is only about ten kilometres away, which makes a morning trip straightforward.

Allow a couple of hours to walk the stalls without rushing, more if you plan to bargain seriously or stop for tea. The market sits close enough to the rest of town that you can combine it with other stops the same morning.

How to get there by dolmuş from Side, Belek and the resorts

The dolmuş minibus is the usual way in from the coastal resorts, running regularly between Manavgat, Side and the surrounding towns. From Belek the distance is around forty-five to fifty-five kilometres by road, so the minibus is a longer ride but still the cheapest independent option.

Taxis and hire cars give you more freedom over timing, and many coastal hotels sell organised market excursions that include return transfers and sometimes a guide. If your priority is bargaining rather than transport, a guide can help with the language at the Thursday stalls.

Haggling at the stalls

Bargaining is a local tradition at Manavgat, part of the ritual of the bazaar rather than a tourist trick. Ask the opening price, respond with a lower figure, and settle somewhere in between with good humour rather than pressure.

Haggling works best on the textile and souvenir sections rather than on everyday produce, where prices tend to be set. Walking away politely is part of the process and often brings a revised offer before you reach the next table.

What to pair with a market morning

Start with the market while the stalls are fresh, then walk to the Manavgat Central Mosque near the Yellow German Bridge, one of the larger mosques in the region, with a peaceful garden and a calm interior. Morning is the quietest time to visit.

Afterwards, head a short drive out of the centre to the Manavgat Waterfall, where a riverside café and shaded park make an easy pause after the noise of the bazaar. Round the day off with a detour to Side, where the Temple of Apollo on the headland is at its best towards sunset.

If you want to build a fuller day around the river and the ruins, our guide to the things to do in Manavgat covers the waterfall, the boat trips and the ancient sites within reach. For the market's place in the town's layout and its riverside setting, see the Manavgat bazaar page.

Other market days in the Manavgat area

If Monday and Thursday do not fit your itinerary, smaller neighbourhood markets run through the week in Manavgat and nearby villages, including produce markets in Sorgun and Çolaklı and a Wednesday street market at Örnek. These are local shopping streets rather than the main bazaar, so the range of souvenirs is narrower.

Side also has its own bazaar, which one local tour operator describes as a Saturday market with clothes, souvenirs and local products. Confirm the current day with your hotel or the local tourist office before travelling, as schedules shift between seasons.

Monday or Thursday for your market morning?

Choose Monday if you want the food side of Manavgat market: seasonal produce, honey and cheese from local farmers. Choose Thursday if you are shopping for towels, leather, ceramics or gifts.

Whichever day you pick, arrive mid-morning, take the dolmuş if you are staying in Side or the resorts, and keep the afternoon free for the mosque and the waterfall.
