Manavgat Waterfall: What You See and How to Get There

Manavgat Waterfall is a wide, low curtain of water rather than a tall drop: the Manavgat River spills over cliffs of about five metres and spreads across the full width of the channel. The visit itself is short, built around a riverside promenade with seating, so treat it as a half-day outing at most rather than a full day out. This guide covers what you actually see, how to reach the falls by dolmuş, car or boat, and how the ticket and seasonal hours work.

The site sits in Sarılar in Manavgat district, close to Side and within reach of the Belek hotel strip. Most visitors come from Manavgat town itself, from Side, or on a day trip from Antalya, and the falls work well as one stop in a wider day of things to do around the district.

A wide, low cascade on the Manavgat River

The Manavgat River runs for roughly 90 kilometres from the Western Taurus Mountains before reaching the sea, and the falls form where it drops over cliffs of about five metres. Because the drop is low but the river is broad, the water arrives as a wide white band rather than a single plume. The flow is strong enough that the river supports rafting and canoeing in the surrounding area.

Around the water, the banks are planted with mulberry, sycamore, willow, poplar and elm, and the riverbed is lined with greenhouses and citrus gardens. Bird and fish life is part of the appeal, with carp, mullet and kingfisher among the species recorded in the area. Come expecting a green riverside setting rather than a dramatic gorge.

Where the waterfall sits and how far it is from town

The falls lie in Sarılar, about 4 kilometres from Manavgat town centre and close to the hotel regions around Belek. Antalya city centre is roughly 80 kilometres away, which makes the falls a realistic day trip from the coast but a long one from the city itself.

Side is the nearest well-known base, and the falls sit a short drive north of Manavgat town. If you are staying in Side or around Manavgat, the waterfall slots easily into a morning; from Belek or further west, plan it as part of a day that includes the town and the river.

What you actually see and do on site

The surroundings have been laid out as a promenade with seats, so the main activity is walking along the bank and watching the water. Restaurants, cafés and tea gardens sit beside the river, and breakfast or a fresh fish lunch within earshot of the falls is the usual pattern. Bringing your own food for a picnic is also fine.

This is a picnic-and-stroll kind of stop rather than an activity hub. The promenade is flat and short, so an hour or two covers the falls comfortably unless you are eating a full meal by the water.

Boat trips on the Manavgat River

From Manavgat town centre you can join a river cruise of around three to four hours, with passengers shuttled from the boat to the waterfall itself. That makes the boat a different proposition from the falls: the cruise is the main event and the waterfall is a stop within it.

Day trips in the area pair the falls with other stops, and the waterfall is typically the opening visit before the rest of the itinerary. If you prefer to control your own timing, the dolmuş and a short walk give you the falls without committing to a full excursion.

Getting there by dolmuş, car or tour

Minibuses run from Manavgat bus station to the waterfall roughly every 15 minutes, and the hop from the district centre takes about 10 minutes. From Antalya, take a minibus from Antalya Intercity Bus Terminal in the direction of Manavgat and change in town. That access chain is worth writing down before you set out.

By car, the falls are a straightforward run from Side, Manavgat or the Belek hotels. Tours from the coastal resorts bundle the falls with other stops, which suits travellers who would rather not manage the minibus change in Manavgat.

Opening hours and entrance fee

The published hours run from 09:00 to 21:00 between April and September and from 09:00 to 18:00 between November and March, as recorded in 2021. Treat those times as the pattern rather than a guarantee and confirm the day's hours before a late-afternoon trip.

The entrance fee was published as 6 TL per person in 2021, and tickets are bought on site. The Museum Pass Card is not valid at the waterfall, so a multi-site day needs the falls budgeted separately from the card-covered museums and ancient sites.

When to go and what to plan around

April to November is the period most often recommended for a visit, and weekdays are quieter than weekends. Summer afternoons bring heat and the fullest cafés, so an early start gets you the promenade with fewer people and cooler air.

The Manavgat is described as one of the most consistently flowing rivers in Turkey, fed by underground water in the canyons, so the wide band of water is the usual sight rather than a seasonal trickle. Build the falls into a morning and keep the rest of the day flexible.

Manavgat Waterfall or Side: which fits your half-day

The waterfall is a short promenade stop with a café and a view; Side is a town with streets, a harbour and ancient ruins to walk through. If you have half a day, the falls plus a meal by the river is the lighter option, while Side rewards the fuller day on foot.

Pairing the two works well because they sit close together: see the falls in the morning, then drive to Side for the afternoon. Add the Manavgat Bazaar if your visit falls on a market day and you want to combine the river with the town centre.

How long to allow

Allow one to two hours for the falls themselves, including the promenade walk and a drink by the water. Add an hour or more if you plan breakfast or a fish lunch at one of the riverside restaurants.

If you take the river cruise, budget three to four hours for the boat and the shuttle to the falls rather than treating the waterfall as a quick add-on. Group the falls with the rest of your plans for the district so the travel time is not spent twice.

Is the waterfall worth the stop?

Yes, if you are already in Manavgat, Side or the Belek hotels and want an easy riverside hour with a view and a meal. It is a low, wide cascade with a promenade rather than a wilderness hike, so do not build a whole day around it.

Go early, take the dolmuş from Manavgat bus station if you are not driving, and pair the falls with Side or the town centre. Check the day's hours and ticket price before you travel, since the published figures date from 2021.
